IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Friday and Saturday Nav-Stock events have been regretfully cancelled by the organizers. Sunday's pairs event and barbeque is still on. This is a busy time of year and it was determined that the participant numbers were too low to hold the full weekend of events. There is simply too much adventure competing for people's attention. We all remain committed to the Nav-Stock dream of free love, however, and urge you to look forward to a full-size Nav-Stock 2010!
Organized by GHO, Nav-Stock will be held on the weekend of June 13/14, for a full two days of your favourite heart-pounding pasttime. Saturday will be chock full of three events (and much eating, no doubt). The morning will start with a rigourous middle distance event, the afternoon will be shocked by navigation games and sprint races, and your evening seduced by good old-fashioned night orienteering. The finale of Nav-Stock will be our own TOC Champs event on Sunday, including the barbecue for which TOC has become legend among backyard chefs and orienteerers in the GTA. All this for just $15/day! It would cost you more in electricity to sit in front of your air conditioner!
This year, the Champs will be a pairs event. Each runner will run solo, but your final score will depend on your partner's skill as well. You'll have to work together to devise your winning strategy and beat the clock! Sign up with your runner of choice today. Don't have a partner? Send us a note and we'll try to hook you up with another single. Otherwise, we'll pair you up on race day with another smiling friendly orienteerer and have you off into the woods in no time.
We're always encouraging new participants, but understand that events may seem a bit daunting to the beginner. Starting, uh, now, we welcome you to bring a beginner (also known as 'newbie') to TOC events to run with you, so you can show the little nipper (or your mom, your boss, your book club organizer) the ropes, for free! The conditions are: you have to be an OOA member, your newbie can't be, and there is a limit of 1 newbie per member. Newbies will be required to sign a waiver, of course, but we'll also give them a map so they can follow your brilliant course tactics. For the TOC Champs, both team members can bring beginners, swelling your team girth to a massive 4 participants! Now that's impressive!
Don't forget that the World Famous Barbecue, which will include the roasting of several TOC members and Ceremonial Post Race Distribution of the Trinkets, is included with your entry fee to the TOC Champs. Nothing cools you down after a hot run through the wilds of the Escarpment like potato salad, so be sure to set aside some time for the barbecue after the event. There will also be watermelon.
