May 31, 2010 - There are only 4 days until the TOC's Summer Training camp begins! As you know, our permit allows only 25 participants and there are only 6 available spots left! Right now there are 8 members of COF's High Performance Program attending along with members of the GHO, Stars, OOC and TOC clubs.

Contact Igor Palagnyuk to grab one of the remaining spots before it is too late!

Latest camp updates:

  • Warden Woods training has been upgraded to a Sprint race! We have been granted permission to allow more then 25 participants for this event only. The price remains the same and is included in the camp package price, but now additional participants can run this event! If you are interested in only the Warden Woods sprint on Saturday afternoon, contact Igor Palagnyuk to reserve a map.
  • Igor has added a 3rd course on the Toronto Islands on Sunday! This means the camp will now have 9 training opportunities over the 3 days!
  • Course 1 on Sunday will take place on Ward's Island, so make sure you get on the right ferry (the Ward's Island ferry leaving Toronto at 11.00am). Start time of the 1st course will be 11:30. It will end at 12:00 noon and then the group will be moving to Center Island at 12:10 (close to the maze).
  • The start times for course 2 and 3 on Sunday is 13:00. If you are skipping course 1, take the 12:30 or 13:00 Center Island ferry. Make your way from the docks over the the start location near the maze.
  • Courses 2 & 3 on Sunday will not be available until 13:00 but they will stay up until night.
  • Check out the Toronto Ferry schedule for details on returning ferries.

So another TOC Champs has come and gone. Those looking for some bush this weekend certainly found it up on the Escarpment! The summer undergrowth added an additional layer of challenge to Mj's busy score-o courses. Pairs of racers had 2 hours total to tackle 2 separate courses. The rules were simple: each runner ran a different course, then met up with their partner to exchange maps and run the other. Total points were based on the controls that both runners punched. The team earned no points for controls that only one teammate reached. A little teamwork, a little strategy, and a lot of fun!

Some runners data was not downloaded after the first or second legs and we're recovering that data manually from the SI bricks. To whet your appetite, we have the preliminary results here, by individual runner, and will have the team results up shortly. Stay tuned for an official announcement of our individual TOC Champs and our team winners!

We'd like to thank the event team for pulling it all together, and arranging the lovely weather for us besides: Clive, Mj, Alex, Alison, Erin, Rob and Katrin.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:The Friday and Saturday Nav-Stock events have been cancelled. We are understandly disappointed, but the TOC Champs are still eager to please. Details, irreverance, and ill-concealed innuendo on the event page. Sign up ASAP to reserve your map and your spot in the barbeque line!

Speaking of, it is a pot luck, so don't forget to bring your fave salad, dessert, snack or fondue! You can't live on barbeque alone! [Editor's note: Yes, actually, you can, but humour us and bring something.]

May 25, 2009

Not to distract you from the inaugural Why Just Run? race taking place on June 6, but we want to draw your attention to the upcoming Nav-Stock Weekend o' O-Love. The wonderfully libertarian Nav-Stock event is two solid days (and nights) of outdoor fun: orienteering, camping, burning perfectly good food. We are also understandably, palpably excited for the TOC Champs, just one part of Nav-Stock's shameless offerings. New for this year, the Champs will be a pairs event, for twice the fun! We're also encouraging threesomes, foursomes and orgiastic consumption on a Roman scale. Dig the event page for more tongue, more cheek, and more details!

TOC is throwing it's prodigious weight and talent behind a new race series this year! The Why Just Run? series of urban adventure runs is already generating buzz in the local race scene. We are particularly excited about our long anticipated return to the Toronto Islands. New races, new swag, and new adventures! What's not to love? Register for these bad boys today!

The Why Just Run? series is presented with the generous assistance of a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, for which we are extremely grateful. Visit the Ontario Trillium Foundation website for more information about how they're making Ontario better for all of us!
